On October 25, the APEC Symposium on Digital Business Environment with the theme of "Working Together to Build an Open, Fair and Inclusive Digital Business Environment" was held at the Ocean Flower Island International Conference Center in Danzhou City, Hainan Province. Li Junkai, Secretary-General of ZGC Global High-Level Think Tank Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the Think Tank Alliance) and Director of the Center for International and Regional Cooperation of Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, was invited to attend the symposium and gave a thematic report.
The symposium was co-hosted by the National Industrial Information Security Development Research Center and the Danzhou Municipal People's Government. It was undertaken by Danzhou Science, Technology and Industrial Information Bureau, Yangpu Economic Development Zone Investment Promotion Bureau, and Yangpu International Investment Consulting Co., Ltd. More than 200 people, including representatives from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies such as Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea and Malaysia as well as officials, scholars, experts, business representatives, and institutional representatives from these countries and the United Kingdom, attended the symposium. They also conducted extensive discussions and exchanges on related topics.
In the session of thematic workshop on "Sharing Best Practice for Optimizing the Digital Business Environment", Li Junkai shared her insights on the social responsibilities of platform enterprises such as Alibaba, Amazon, and Tencent with the theme of "Co-building: Strengthening Responsibilities of Platform Companies and Protecting the Rights and Interests of Digital Consumers” under the background of a series of challenges brought about by the rapid development of the platform economy. She expounded the current situation and challenges of digital consumer protection, and proposed to promote the continuous development and improvement of digital consumer protection from six aspects: strengthening the construction of laws and regulations, improving the effectiveness of supervision, enabling the platform companies to assume their responsibilities, improving consumers’ digital literacy, promoting technological innovation and application, and enhancing international cooperation and exchanges.

In this session, five Chinese and foreign scholars, including Zhi Zhenfeng, Research Fellow of the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chris Brown, Director of the Business Environment Program of the British Standards Institution, Peng LIU, Assistant Professor of Singapore Management University, Wang Wei, Deputy Director of the Information Promotion Committee of the China Information Industry Association, and Zhao Meihang, Chief Ecological Operation Officer of Dow Jones China, had in-depth exchanges and interactions on how to build a more open, inclusive and fair digital business environment from multiple perspectives of industry.

Through participating in APEC Symposium on Digital Business Environment, the ZGC Global High-Level Think Tank Alliance demonstrated its active role in promoting APEC cooperation. As an important bridge connecting Asia-Pacific economies, the Think Tank Alliance will continue to leverage its professional advantages and international influence, deepen cooperation and exchanges with APEC economies, and work together to create an open, inclusive, fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for the development of the digital economy.
